Major Problems

I have had OnStar on several cars with just a few technical problems but since February 2018 nothing but missreads features don't work on my car. They tell me to drive it while they scan. GPS will direct you down one way streets or route you right into a construction zone or accident. You sit and wait for service when you get upset and want to cancel they give you something free or discount the service and then limit or cancel paid features now you have misreads or that feature is unavailable! Really!! On Star is the program from ***

Shady Service

I recently bought a brand new Denali. It came with OnStar. I was never informed about the MyGMC app or its functions. When i learned about it, I discovered that GMC takes advantage of their customers by charging them a subscription for BASIC services that should be included with a new vehicle. Other companies take care of their customers. I will be spending my money on a Ford or Dodge next time. Shame on you, GMC.

I order a service because I was satisfied with the price with the plans they offered with wifi plans included. Few months later I found out they were over charging me for the service. So I called and asked why am I being over charged the answer was who ever I talked before gave me the wrong info... the bad part wifi service plan wasn't even included!!! Well, so I cancel the service and guess what...??? They charge me for next month service. I'm saying charge me for a month advance!!! Don't trust them with sweet talk because if something goes wrong all they gonna do is blame someone else not take care the matter. Im still pissed off at this MF thieves!!!

Dispute the charge. You may or may not win the dispute, but make sure you tell everyone to never, ever subscribe to Onstar.

On star scam

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
renewed on star on my vehicle after a lapse in service. They agreed to a reduced rate that is less than their advertised rate. This was all done in the vehicle and on star communicated very well and got my credit card # for payment to finalize the deal and all communications went well. NEXT MORNING : less than 24 hours later on star will not connect. Four phone calls and 3 different on star excuses later the vehicle needs to go to a dealer to troubleshoot the problem. O.K. I can see through this and it is because their agent committed to a reduced rate they are trying to get me to a dealer for a "scan" at an exorborant rate . Then a "repair" for more money. Once the "scan" and "repair" are greater than on star's most expensive rate; I am sure service will be restored at the reduced rate. I'll not fall for this and put in a cancellation call and it remains to be seen if I will have to fight on star charges.

Onstar charging card without authorization

Today, June 20, 2018, I noticed a charge of $38.95 on my Discover Card (charged on May 23, 2018). I was reviewing my account to check on a recent purchase. I periodically review my statement online to check for errors, etc. After noticing the charge I confirmed with my husband that we have not authorized any payments to Onstar.

I made a call to Onstar. The first 2 female representatives I spoke with were helpful and somewhat pleasant. I was told by them I was contacted by Onstar via email and/or mail about my free subscription expiring and I authorized them to charge my credit card. I did not. I was informed Onstar had been charging my card $38.95 each month since December. This was news to me since I had not noticed the amount on my account due to the small amount it didn’t raise a red flag to me.

The 2nd female representative offered to refund me 3 months, totaling $114.83 back to my Discover Card in five days. Before she connected me with a supervisor I asked that she cancel my plan and go ahead and refund the amount of $114.83. She confirmed she did both and then transferred me to her supervisor.

Onstar only got my credit card number because when I purchased my vehicle around June of 2017 I was told I had to provide my credit card number to activate the free subscription. I was never told at Five Star Chevrolet in Florence, SC my card would automatically be charged after the free subscription. I was told I would receive notice from Onstar before any payments were drafted from my account and when the free subscription ended.

I have never received any emails or mailings from Onstar regarding my free subscription ending or that they would be drafting my credit card. I did receive a call from Onstar through my vehicle one day while driving. The representative asked if I wanted to extend my free subscription for 3 more months. There was no mention of me enrolling in auto pay. I thought it was a courtesy call and they were letting me have 3 more free months. I spoke with a male “supervisor” after speaking to the 2 female representatives today who said at that time (the call I received in my car from an Onstar representative) I authorized Onstar to enroll me in auto pay after those extra free 3 months. He also said I enrolled in auto pay by accepting it in an email. Neither I, nor my husband accepted auto pay in an email. I also did not accept auto pay in my phone call with Onstar when the additional free 3 months was offered.

The male supervisor I spoke with today would not confirm the email they were sending diagnostic reports to and said I would have to provide him with it and he would confirm. He said it was under my husband’s name. I read off my husband’s email and the supervisor said “yea, that’s it”. He confirmed Onstar was sending emails and auto pay enroll confirmation to an email that is not my husband’s. I purposely gave him an altered email to see if he was even looking at my account or had an email in front of him. He obviously did not. This behavior is completely dishonest on his part. He said there was nothing he could do for me. He spoke over me and offered no help. The whole idea that I have to provide my credit card number at the time of purchase and be told it is just to activate my free subscription is dishonest. The representatives telling me I enrolled in something I did not is dishonest.

I have not received an email (at my email address or my husband’s email address) confirming the cancellation or the 3 month refund of $114.83. I would request a confirmation in writing that my account plan has been cancelled.

I would also request a complete refund of $233.70 for the unauthorized charges from December 2017-May 2018.

Which is it, were you not told you would be charged after the free subscription, or were told that you’ll would receive notice before any payments were taken out? It can’t be both ways.

Love it but I have a question

My mother in law has a 2016 equinox, and her OnStar when giving turn by turn directions displays the miles to the next turn, an arrow indicating if it is a left turn or right. It continuously displays this during the entire directions. She loves it!! My wife just bought a 2018 equinox but her new OnStar only talks to her without the display. She wants hers to have the same as her mother's. Please let me know how to change it if it can be changed by the operator or if it must be changed remotely or perhaps it needs to be taken back to the dealer. Thank you, Jack Ritter

Impossible to store phone numbers.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I bought a new GMC pick up with on star along with it.

Family insists on it. I tried to store numbers on my hands free phone.

YOU CANNOT STORE OR SAVE PHONE NUMBERS ON 2018 MODELS.

you activate the call button and the system asks what number to dial.

who keeps numbers memorized ? anyway on star informed me they will not fix it in 2018. Now for the function of the dialing. the system asks what number to dial it gets the number wrong and the number is cancelled and the process is repeated. I have to speak out the number clearly, slowly but not too slow or the system drops the number. I have reached my one hundred words. PITA Anyway do not bother with on star if you plan on using the hands free calling. if you want to use it for the emergency system get a cut rate. Good luck with that.

I too wonder why the store feature was eliminated from my 2018 GMC truck? I had it on my 2012 GMC and it was great.

I read someplace that GM changed OnStar provider and they don't offer the store feature. BRING IT BACK. OnStar is supposed to be all about safety but this is not a safety feature.

I called OnStar and they told me to save phone number on favorites and when I call I take my eyes off the road and scan down to find the phone number. Wow what a feature.

Guest

My 2019 Bolt also surprised me with the same problem. That was the best feature about OnStar.

Guest

Can you believe this, no ability any longer to save numbers by name tags!! I thought I was screwing up when I kept saying "STORE" and all the darned OnStar would do was respond "CALL".

SO like you folks I got on the phone with OnStar support (off-shore in India no doubt) and after the agent checking with her supervisor for 10 minutes se came back and said the feature was no longer available!! WTF!! You put a slot in the radio for $5 SD card and you can save all the names you want to. Is this just a Chevy issue or all 2018 GM cars?

The OnStar agent admitted they were unaware of it, and they had "no idea" why the feature was removed.

My new 2018 Chevy is a week old, and you know I am headed to the dealer to give then an ear full about this. I had 2008 and 2013 Chevys, both with OnStar and both with the feature, now I spend an additional $10,000 over what my 2013 was worth and get less features!?!

Guest

Found the same issue in my 18 Silverado. Pretty much makes the phone useless. Will not buy minutes when mine run out.

Total ripoff!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

A few weekends ago I was out of town looking for the beach. I turned down a paved road which suddenly became dirt.

I got stuck in the dirt and contacted onstar for help. They refused! They said they don't provide assistance to vehicles on unpaved roads. The problem is that this is not the way their services are advertised.

They promise emergency roadside assistance in any situation. They would not call someone who I could pay to help me. They left me stranded.

In their words, "You're on your own." Looks like GM is back to old tricks. The next vehicle I buy will definitely not be a GM.

No responce

On Star, You guys really suck at what your paid to do.

Yesterday around 3pm, I started my car, and I hear thru my radio

OnStar telling me “im gonna loose service at the end of the month,

And that I need to renew” all done with a recording.

But, yesterday at about 6:45 am I was in a hard accident.

I rear ended another car. Although my air bags didn’t deploy,

Another screw up by GM, but I was jolted real good.

GUESS WHAT DIDN’T HAPPEN?????

You did not respond in any way to see if I was hurt or needed

Assistance in anyway. Not one word. Frank, do you need a band aid????

Nothing.

But, at 3 pm you knew how to beg me to renew. Guess what, I’m not.

Worst customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
When I bought my new Tahoe this year I was promised 3 months of free OnStar service. This was promised from the Chevy dealership and from OnStar. However, the OnStar has been nothing but a headache. When I set up the service OnStar asked what 2 services I wanted, so I asked for the remote access and WiFi for the 3 month trial. After the first month they started charging me. I have called OnStar 6 times and each time I would get a different answer. The last time I called in by pushing the button in the car and the lady said I still had a free trial, but she was trying to charge me that day. While trying to understand why she wanted to charge me she hung up on me. I did not buy my Tahoe because of a free trial, but I think if a service you are offering is not going to hold up their end of the deal then it should not be offered as an incentive to buy a car.

Sounds like you gave them your credit card, etc. info when you set up with Onstar.

Bad mistake if you did. I haven't bought a new car in three years, but at that time and for prior years I would hit the in-car Onstar button and tell them to cut to the chase and just activate the service and refuse to give them any banking info, etc.

Just activate the thing. You might want to contact and complain to the dealership or direct to Chevrolet corporate as they are the ones selling you this vehicle and the "services" on it.

They hold you on the line for 20 mins to cancel.

Its shoddy service that doesnt do anything for you that your insirance company wont do. Google responds better to voice commands by miles. Its overprices and functions poorly.
